An antique Persian Malayer Gallery carpet. The visibly abrashed and striated rust-brown to graphite ground displays a wholly disjoint version of the popular Harshang (“crab”) pattern of palmettes, ellipses, split “goosenecks”, rosettes and stars. The drawing is rough, and there are details in rose-brown, rust, and eggshell. The sandy beige main border of this west Persian rustic kellegi shows particularly attenuated turtle palmettes.
