An antique Persian Malayer rug. A man on horseback, an unmounted horse and two stick figures flank a graphite hexagonal medallion with nested diamond and animal fillers, all on the distinctly abrashed red-brown to brown ground. A date of 1340 or 1921 appears above. This definitely charming west Persian scatter may originate nearer Hamadan than Malayer. The triple borders all feature similar rosettes on ivory, straw and powder blue. Dated Malayers are rare.
