Antique Persian Mahal Carpet

An antique Persian Mahal carpet. Some might call it a ‘Sultanabad’. Large, bi-toned C-shaped leaves bracket palmettes in an unusual allover pattern with Herati design influences. The pattern on the buff-straw field and the commodious proportions could move it into the c.1900 Sultanabad group with its aura of grandeur and opulent style. The cream border show flexed leaves and two types of palmettes.
