An antique Persian Tabriz Hagi Jalili carpet. This very fine NW Persian urban and urbane room size carpet comes from the most desirable period of Tabriz weaving, the ‘Hajji Jalil’ era at the turn of the 19th century. This adaptation of the classic garden or ‘chahar bagh’ design has cartouche decorated crossing water courses evenly dividing a six column layout of colorful squares with palms, cypresses, vases and weeping willow, fruiting trees and saplings forming parentheses. The sand border supports outward facing palmettes and double recurved leaves. A very beautiful and extremely well executed antique from an accomplished workshop. The light blue is truly luminous.
