An antique Persian Tabriz runner. This urban NW Persian kenare (runner) displays densely drawn, classic “Bid Majnun” Persian pattern of weeping willows, small cypresses, chenars (plane trees) and flowering prunus shrubs on a straw ground with charcoal outlines, framed by a charcoal border with a simplified turtle palmette pattern. The basic design was popular in many areas, both Persian and Turkish, in the later 19th and earlier 20th centuries.
