An antique Persian Zele Sultan rug. The Shadow of the Sultan’ refers to a group of small allover floral patterns on ivory grounds with narrow ivory borders, rather than a place of origin. But the weave is always very fine and the pile is clipped low. The rugs may be Farahan, Kirman, Kashan or from somewhere else in Persia. What they share is sophistication and urbane character popular with affluent Iranians.
