Antique Persian Lavar Kerman Pictorial Throw Rug (Pair: 1 of 2)

No. 24993
Persia, Early 20th Century
2 ft. 9 in. x 3 ft. 7 in.
(0.84 x 1.09 m)

A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. A visual pair to rug # 25005. Woven with a short warp. An urban townscape is centered by a full-length image of Ahmad Shah Qajar standing before a royal box throne. The dervish Nur Ali Shah appears to the right, balanced by a small cypress and a taller leafy tree. A bone-toned sky forms the backdrop. Three inscription cartouches are placed above. Mosaic-pattern columns with elaborate arabesque spandrels separate the figures. The palette is mellow, without sharp reds or blues. An ecru border is decorated with miniature cypresses.
