An antique Turkish Ghiordes carpet. This western Turkish town carpet has a vaguely Axminster character. The giant vertically pulled straw tone lozenge medallion displays stylized irises and angular arabesques, all on a medium brown ground filled with small, two-flower stems. The ivory main border has a gently undulating vine with naturalistically rendered leaves and flowers. The enormous scale of the medallion sharply contrasts with the more delicate drawing of the field and border flowers.
