An antique Turkish Ghiordes rug. A hexagonal, cochineal red field is covered by an exuberant large-leaved plant springing from two tiny vases. The spandrels have abstract red rosette patterns and there are extra panels above and below with snaking cloud bands. A broad sickle leaf and ‘apple’ border frames the whole and makes its attribution exact. The white details are knotted in cotton.
