An antique Turkish Oushak carpet. Whether or not it is an Oushak, clearly this small carpet shows its design debt to both the Heriz and Bidjar Persian weaving areas. The sky blue eight-lobed sub-field is centered by ivory pointed oval medallion with four short “legs” in the Heriz “Animal pelt” fashion. The rose field whose corners are decorated with angular vine segments are more Bidjar in tonality and the cream main border shows a Persianate turtle palmette design. The light blue field end panels with roses are more in the Turkish style, however. An interesting rug no matter the origin.
