An antique Ukrainian Bessarabian carpet. Two woody branches bearing roses, other flowers and leaves, all in sketchy outlines, converge on the yellow-beige field with a dark brown border of streaky hourglasses and erratic floral bunches. The whole thing seems loosely composed but actually is quite precisely executed. This Bessarabian carpet is flatwoven in tapestry technique, hence the crisp appearance.
