A vintage Central Asian Soumak rug most likely handwoven in the Caucasus region. Soumaks are the only Caucasian rugs to regularly come in carpet sizes. The red field of this flatwoven carpet displays navy lobed medallions with cruciform centers, all within a star and ashik powder blue border resembling those on some 19th-century Heriz pieces. This a bold and striking alternative to the usual knotted pile carpets.
