A vintage Indian Lahore rug. Three main columns of in-and-out Safavid-style palmettes organize the light-medium blue field of this precisely designed and executed northern Indian carpet. Cloud bands snake among tiny leaves and flowers. Lahore is now in Pakistan, but it was a major center of Indian carpet weaving in the pre-WWII period. This is a fine example of the predominant classicizing rug design trends among the leading manufacturers.
