A vintage Persian Mahal rug. Persian weavers of the 1950s reworked many traditional designs into abstract compositions in keeping with Western tastes. This rustic small scatter displays an overall irregular scaliform lozenge lattice with color rows in red, rust, green, sand, dark blue and sky blue. The lowest row is amusingly squeezed as if flattened by the pattern weight above. The well-abrashed light blue border shows floating petal rosettes.
