Vintage Persian Mahal Square Accent Carpet

A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The pale apricot-sand to warm-beige field displays an allover pattern of alternating upright and inverted palmettes, curved pale blue-grey and muted teal leaves, and star-filled cartouches, recalling earlier Safavid designs. The motifs are accented in soft sage green, ivory, tan, and occasional brown-rust. The narrow pale blue-grey to muted-teal border features reversing fan palmettes.
