A vintage Persian Malayer rug from the mid-20th century. Bold like a Caucasian Kazak rug, the abrashed (natural color striations) orange medallion displays an arrowhead pendanted indigo sub-medallion, all on a camel-tone and ivory small diaper ground. The matching blue border displays very geometric leaves. This is a very unusual scatter from a Kurdish or Turkish village in an underestimated northwest Persian weaving region of about 120 villages. Visually dramatic in comparison to a typical Malayer.
