Vintage Persian Malayer Rug

A vintage Persian Malayer rug. Although this is a Herati design variant, it does not, at least at first glance, appear so. The lozenges and split leaf cruciform are played up and visual effect is almost European needlework in character.  The pale grey field is another diversion. The big palmettes of the buff border are accented in dark brown and a slightly lighter sienna details the field elements of this very attractive west Persian scatter.
