Vintage Persian Mashad Pictorial Room Size Carpet

A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The gray-taupe field presents a classic Persian combat scene, with a pale blue dragon coiled around a dark brown tree at the lower left and a richly feathered senmurv in golden ochre, brown, ivory, and black flying toward it from the right. Smaller flowering trees rise from multicolored rocks in the Sino-Persian manner, accompanied by real and imaginary perched birds and a pair of startled antelopes fleeing at the lower right. The narrow green-ground border displays golden scrolling foliage and polychrome blossoms.
