Vintage Persian Shiraz Pictorial Rug

A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The crisp red field presents a bust-length portrait of Nader Shah at the right, while at the left a flower surmounted by a small bird rises from a flowerpot. Two smaller plants and an animal further animate the scene. A straw-bone border with a faceted, thick meander and profile palmettes frames the field, finished with a zigzag triangle outer border. An inscription identifies Nader Shah. Possibly from a Khamseh tribal group.
