A vintage Persian Shiraz rug. This finely woven rustic carpet was woven by the Qashkuli subtribe of the Qashqai in southern Persia. It is a vertically doubled millefleurs prayer rug with side half cypress columns and a vase on a mound at each end of the red field. The navy border with palmettes and stiff leaves is found on other Qashkuli areas while the field pattern was derived from Mughal Kashmir prayer rugs of the 17th century. The pattern was reflected to make a larger format.
