A vintage Persian Tabriz carpet. The unusual circular medallion with two tones of decorative internal lappets surrounds a sunburst round sub-medallion. Pointed spandrels position the central roundel which was inspired by the ceiling of the Blue Mosque in Tabriz. The interplay of architecture and carpet design in Persia goes back to the 16th century Safavid era.
