Vintage Persian Afshar Carpet

A vintage Persian Afshar carpet. On occasion, tribal weavers are commissioned to create extra-large carpets, as here with a large Persian nomadic Afshar with a giant, tall, sharply pointed striped lozenge pattern enclosing eight petal geometric rosettes. The multi-banded lozenges are seen individually on Qashqai Dozar size scatters. The weave is fine and approximates urban carpets rather than loosely woven rural pieces. The striped lozenges were adapted from Mohtasham Kashans.
