An antique Turkish Sivas carpet. Somebody took an early rug book out and copied the design of the famous Chelsea Carpet (now in the V & A Museum in London). The ogival palmettes, the complex vinery medallions, the giant reciprocal border lappets with their complex rinceau fillings are all here in a reduced tonality emphasizing oatmeal and rust-brown. This historicizing piece is about the size of the original.
