Vintage Turkish Anatolian Accent Carpet

A wool pile of symmetric knots on a cotton foundation. A truly bizarre vertical pole medallion dominates the dark gray-blue field, composed of assorted rectangles, winged forms, inscription cartouches, paired flaps, and other eccentric devices, decorated with zigzags, lettering, parallel stripes, and chessboard motifs. Thin, stiff lines randomly divide the field, which includes winged and plain animals, a monkey, dragons, and a flutist. The main peach border features schematic dancing figures. A wholly idiosyncratic and individualistic rug, offering endless opportunities for interpretation, and possibly signed within the inscription cartouche.
