Vintage Turkish Anatolian Pictorial Rug

A wool pile of symmetric knots on a wool foundation. The dark brown field depicts two confronting tawny-brown stags with retroverted heads, separated by a stylized ecru herringbone tree. Small birds in pale pink and ivory appear above the large quadrupeds. The smoky-beige long borders display linked square-meander motifs accented in dark brown, rust, pink, and gray-violet, while the narrower side borders feature scattered small motifs. Originally woven as a yastik, or cushion cover.
