Vintage Turkish Anatolian Pictorial Rug

A wool pile of symmetric knots on a wool foundation. Originally woven as a yastik, or cushion cover, this rustic piece depicts two confronting lions staring outward at the viewer on an abrashed medium to dark brown field. The left lion is rendered in rust-brown, while the right is ecru or ivory; both have angular bodies decorated with star motifs and quizzical faces framed by comb-like manes. Coral red, dark brown, muted blue-green, and pale pink accents enliven the design. The narrow taupe-brown border displays small floating quartered octagons and crosses.
