An antique Caucasian Shirvan rug. Three and one half octagonal medallions in red and ivory alternate on the abrashed, dark blue-green field of this east Caspian scatter, surrounded by a welter of geometric rosettes, badges, various hooked motives and small octagons. The middle blue border has an ivory pattern derived from Kufic calligraphy. This good condition small rug is a perfect example of Caucasian design creativity and is equally at home in country or urban interiors.
