Antique Central Asian Soumak Room Size Carpet

Wool pattern wefts in the soumak technique on a wool foundation. The madder-red to warm coral field displays a vertical stack of five deep indigo and navy octagonal medallions, flanked by lighter blue, turquoise, and teal beveled squares sprouting slender leaves. Small blue octagons enclosing stars fill the spaces between the principal elements. Additional accents appear in salmon, ivory, soft green, yellow, and brown. The dark navy main border is divided into sections along the sides and uniformly patterned with blunt octagonal stars. A highly unusual room-size soumak carpet.
