An antique East Turkestan Samarkand carpet. Probably a Khotan production, this eastern Turkestan room size carpet has an unusual allover pattern of palmettes composed offat, lazy S’s barred with double ended botehs in brick, ivory, and camel. These motives were likely borrowed from border elements on NW Persian rugs. The blue and ivory reciprocal main border is also apparently unique to this rug.
