The soft red field displays a giant, open dumb bell cartouche defined by broad strapwork and giant lateral palmettes. Vinery and smaller palmettes fill the center and side reserves. The near black border shows reversing pairs of limp, serrated leaves, and intermediate rosettes. Similar strapwork appears on 17th century Mughal Indian carpets. Cotton foundation; well woven; city carpet. Good condition.
