Antique Indian Lahore Large Square Room Size Carpet

A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The deep lac-red field displays serpentine cloud bands, large inward- and outward-curving palmettes, arabesques, smaller palmettes, and other vegetal motifs in salmon, pale pink, ivory, light blue, teal, green, tan, and dark brown, all in the seventeenth-century Indo-Isfahan style. The dark navy main border features additional inward- and outward-curving palmettes, with diagonal palmettes forming the corner turns. A narrow green floral guard border and a plain lac-red outer strip surround the composition.
