An antique Lavar Kerman carpet. Lavar town, north of Kerman city in SE Persia is known for particularly fine carpets in the prevailing Kerman style. Here the large pendant pale pistachio octofoil medallion encloses millefleurs vinery and a crimson cochineal octofoil sub-medallion. Powerful ivory volute arabesques center the composition on the navy ground and within the scarlet corners. This is a classic high-quality antique Kerman with a rich palette of about 20 distinct tones.
