An antique Persian Bakhshaish carpet. The ‘Bakshayesh’ period in Heriz weaving runs from the 1850’s until late in the 19th century. A dense Herati allover motif has been repeated on the brown field of this totally characteristic piece. The red rosette and bent leaf border has been well drawn, and is the usual accompaniment on this type of antique Heriz weaving.
