An antique Persian Bakhshaish Square carpet. The light camel field displays an open, semi-geometric version of the Harshang palmette allover pattern, framed by a slightly darker plain camel border. Shades of light blue are particularly noteworthy. Bakhshaish rugs are the Heriz district rugs, mostly in allover patterns, woven between 1880 and 1900. Many have neo-Caucasian patterns and mellow, but natural, tonalities.
