Antique Persian Bidjar Room Size Carpet

A wool pile of symmetric knots on a wool foundation. This double Garrus, woven in the town of Garrus near Bidjar, displays the characteristic “Garrus” pattern of rust-red and coral forked arabesques on an ecru-to-ivory ground rather than the more usual dark blue. The arabesques are arranged on two levels, while slender-stemmed flowers in navy, medium blue, teal, pale blue, salmon, tan, brown, and muted green fill the interstices. The wide, strip-style dark navy border displays finely drawn reversing turtle palmettes. A very rare and exceptionally attractive example of this highly desirable type.
