An antique Persian Fereghan Sarouk carpet. The rich deep blue field supports a cruciform, cream pendant concave medallion and rust conforming sub-medallion, all uniformly decorated with flowering vines. The old ivory and rust corners are generally en suite with the main motif. The rust main border of this well—woven west Persian village room size carpet displays doubly curved leaves framing reversing palmettes. Sarouk-Farahans were woven only in the 1890 to 1910 period and thus all are antique. Pieces of this size are quite uncommon. All dyes are of natural origin.
