Antique Persian Lavar Kerman Carpet

No. 8357
Persia, Circa 1910
9 ft. 3 in. x 14 ft. 3 in.
(2.80 x 4.31 m)

An antique Persian Lavar Kerman carpet. Kerman carpets are often inspired by textiles and this one way boteh pattern, ivory ground carpet takes its cue from Kerman woolen shawls of the 19th century. Between the botehs (cones, paisleys) is a delicate floral tracery. Botehs are doubled layered in the main border. Kermans have an inexhaustible garden repertoire and no two antique carpets are alike. The overall effect is precise but creative; detailed, but not fussy.
