Antique Persian Lavar Kerman Pictorial Throw Rug

A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The open cochineal-scarlet field depicts an Achaemenid king in combat, neatly disemboweling a schematic, decorative lion, its stylization recalling a mosaic horse. The scene is enclosed by an ecru inner frame with lollipop rosettes and forked scrolls. A navy main border carries sprays of white flowers. The design is derived from a rock relief at Persepolis.
