Antique Persian Mahal Large Carpet

A navy main border of rosettes barbed lancet leaves and “tangerine flower” modules precisely frames the beige field with a small-scale allover Herati pattern. The pattern is unusually petite both for the general size of the carpet and for the tendency of Mahal carpets to employ larger versions. The boldness of the border makes a fine contrast to the diminutive precision of the field. Medium-coarse weave on cotton. Some areas of corduroy wear. Fairly good condition.
