Antique Persian Mahal Oversize Carpet

A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. This extraordinary village carpet shows a madder red field supporting two columns of seven color-alternating rounded quadrilobe medallions in ecru, bone, and medium blue. These create circular reserves with central rosettes, radiating tulips, and other flowers. The yellow ochre strip-style tangerine flower border displays a panoply of colorful rosettes and florets. The minor borders show stars, zigzags, and chains of geometric flowers.
