Antique Persian Mahal Oversize Carpet

A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. This large-scale carpet boldly presents a Mina Khani-style trellis of rosettes, ragged palmettes, smaller rosettes, and petal palmettes in ivory, ecru, coral-red, rust, camel, olive, pale blue, and dark teal, interlaced with two levels of linking vinery on a deep navy-to-indigo ground. On the abrashed madder-red to coral-rust main border, ecru octagram rosettes alternate in strip style with dark blue and teal semi-ragged palmettes. Both secondary borders display runs of reversing fan palmettes in ivory, rust, blue, olive, and brown.
