Antique English Axminster Oversize Carpet

A wool pile of symmetric knots on a wool foundation. This extraordinarily large piece displays a medium blue to turquoise-blue field uniformly decorated with a quasi-Turkmen array of octagonal quasi-guls arranged in five columns and ten rows, accompanied by square minor guls and square connectors. The octagons are of two subtly different but equally sized types and are rendered in straw, camel, tan, salmon, pale pink, rust, light blue, olive green, and dark brown. The broad blue-ground outer border features linked diamonds and X-motifs in straw, rust, brown, and pale blue.
