Antique Persian Mahal Rug

An antique Persian Mahal rug. A well-dyed royal blue ground displays a basically biaxially symmetric Gol Hennai allover pattern, although the flowering plants all point in the same direction. The leaf and flower lozenge lattice is broken, but the textile pattern is still clear.  The plain beige outer border makes a relaxed frame. A most attractive scatter from a village workshop in western Persia.
