Antique Persian Malayer Carpet

An antique Persian Malayer carpet. The light blue field hosts a closely packed Harshang allover pattern organized around three major axes. The pattern descends ultimately from the Shah ‘Abbas palmettes and vine pattern of the 17^th century. The rust border employs a version of the tangerine flower pattern, but with four rather than three florets.
