Antique Persian Mashad Throw Rug

A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. This near-mat features a petal palmette enclosing a vase, from which rosettes, flowers, and stems rise in an ascending layout on a brownish slate ground. An inner light-rust border carries rosettes and palmettes. The weave is quite fine, giving the surface a ribbed, corduroy-like texture.
