An antique Persian Sarouk rug. A rich cranberry ground sets off the boldly drawn multicolor floral sprays. There are a subtle center motif and a vertical axis organizing the pattern. The flowers pass beneath the narrow triple border, implying continuity beyond the carpet. Open, spacious Sarouks, as here, tend to be from the earliest period of the “American” type, the 1920s.
