An antique Persian Shiraz rug from the early 20th century. From Fars Province in SW Persia, this tribal rug has a dark blue ground displaying botehs (paisleys), dogs, stars, lozenges, and feathery fronds, all around a red, comb-fringed lozenge medallion with arrowhead points. The ivory arrowhead chain minor border is characteristic of rugs from the Khamseh (“Five”) Confederation operating near Shiraz.
