An antique Persian Shiraz rug. On the ecru field scores of small chickens (murgh) and dogs add a lively scatter fill to a two-by-two vertically and horizontally joined stepped hexagon array. Each red-brown hexagon of this SW Persian tribal scatter rug encloses stylized flowers. The ivory border displays the rosette, two bud and square on a tendril pattern characteristic of many Persian rustic rugs, from Bidjar to Afshar.
