An antique Persian Sultanabad carpet. A wide salmon-rust border with dramatic turtle palmettes and complex supporting vines and rosettes makes a perfect frame for the sandy field with its five column pattern of small palmettes, angular vines, and imaginative rosettes. ”Sultanabad” is the trade name given to Mahals of the pre-1910 era, especially those with large, unique patterns and vigorous drawing.
