Antique Persian Sultanabad Carpet

An antique Persian Sultanabad carpet. More densely and elaborately patterned than most west Persian village antique Sultanabads, this magnificent carpet exhibits a Shah ‘Abbas pattern of somewhat flattened upright and lazy palmettes, cloud bands and arabesque segments on a medium-dark indigo blue ground. The rust-to-red abrashed border shows ragged and petal palmettes in a variety of sizes. All dyes are natural and the pattern is a one-off. It is all that a true Persian rug is supposed to be.
